An 80-year-old woman riding a moped was killed Wednesday when she was struck by an SUV at an intersection in Falmouth, according to local police.

The woman, who Falmouth Police have not publicly named, was hit around 4 p.m. at the corner of Chapoquoit Road and West Falmouth Highway, or Route 28A, the department said.

Members of the Falmouth Police and Fire departments responded to the crash scene at 4:08 p.m., where they found the woman had sustained fatal injuries in the collision with the much larger vehicle.

The police department said the woman lived in the West Falmouth area of the town. Her death remains under investigation by Falmouth Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
