MIDLAND, Texas — UPDATE: The suspect, identified as 72-year-old Joseph A. Armstrong, is being charged with injury to a child, elderly individual or disabled individual, according to an arrest report.

According to an arrest affidavit, Armstrong's wife said the two got into a verbal argument that that escalated due to Armstrong being intoxicated and off medications.

She said Armstrong threw his walking cane at her, inuring her arm. He then began breaking glass bottles in the house.

She then called the Midland Police Department and was taken from the scene. Armstrong stayed in the house and officers were unable to make contact. That is when MPD officers who responded to the scene called in the SWAT team.

Armstrong was eventually into custody without incident.

UPDATE: The Midland Police Department SWAT team was called to the 3300 block of Providence Drive in reference to a barricaded suspect, according to a City of Midland spokesperson.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported and charges pending.

At least 20 Midland Police officers and the bomb squad are on Providence Drive and Cape Cod Lane in Midland.

A next-door neighbor said they were evacuated from their home around 8 p.m.

Residents that live on the street said it is an apparent standoff.

Neighbors also said a man barricaded himself in his home.
