CHICOPEE — The city is continuing efforts to replace aging and sometimes faulty water meters, but is being hampered by an inability to get the needed equipment.
City Council members said they are anxious to see the program move forward and voted 12-0 recently to spend $200,000 from the water surplus account to continue the effort and expand it to the Fairview area.
“This is one of the biggest issues in the city,” City Councilor Derek Dobosz said. “It is a rough situation. People are getting surprise water bills because the water meter is faulty and the water department is guessing.”
