The University of Stavanger invites applicants for a position as Researcher in Environmental Biotechnology/Bioprocess Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Chemistry, Bioscience and Environmental Engineering. The position is vacant from July 2022.

The appointment is for two years with research duties exclusively. The researcher will be affiliated with research project "Granule based wastewater treatment" funded by the UNIVAR program.

It is assumed that the appointee will work full time on the project and that she/he will participate in the academic community.

The general job description for researcher at UiS gives a more detailed account of relevant duties.

In this project we will study the performance and capacity of a demonstration scale (small pilot) UASB/EGSB reactor following dissolved air floatation primary treatment of an industrially influenced municipal wastewater at Gr daland WWTP, Norway.

Furthermore, a demonstration scale photogranule bioreactor inoculated with a consortium of methanotrophs and cyanobacteria will be designed and tested for post-treatment of dissolved methane and residual COD. The overall coupled reactor potential as a secondary treatment alternative for municipal wastewater treatment will be assessed. Key process performances, like granulated reactor capacity and treatment efficiency, granulated biomass stability (physical and microbiologically) and stability during long term COD loading variations and seasonal fluctuations will be investigated.

The hired researcher will support the principal investigator in building up and extending current research in our group on engineered granulated biomass and wastewater treatment. He/she will also participate in workshops and other events related to the project, write publications and provide technical support in the form of guiding potential master and bachelor students in experimental and theoretical techniques (bioprocess modelling).

We are looking for applicants with a strong academic background who have completed a five-year master degree (3+2) within environmental bioprocess engineering, environmental biotechnology or wastewater engineering.
